In this paper, an energy efficient routing protocol for wireless sensor network utilizing environmental characteristics is studied. Based on the properties of environments that can be divided into highly correlated regions, an Attribute CHange Inbuilt Energy saVing clustEring (ACHIEVE) for wireless sensor network has been proposed. In the proposed protocol, instead of being activated all the time, some nodes could be slept while other nodes are working. A threshold is used for active nodes to wake other sleeping nodes up whenever a considerable change to environmental attributes is recognized. In addition, a two-hop mechanism is carried out that reduces the number of direct connection from cluster head to the sink.
