Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) is increasingly used for productivity enhancement and correct-by-construction development of Distributed Real-time and Embedded (DRE) systems. Despite this trend, configuration of middleware used to host these systems remains a significant impediment for DRE system developers. This problem stems from inadequate levels of abstraction for middleware configuration options supported by MDE tools that yield no significant benefit over directly manipulating the middleware-specific configuration options, which is already known to be a hard and tedious process.
