Juniper Research defines mobile banking as "The provision of banking services to customers on their mobile devices": specifically one means the operation of bank current and deposit or savings accounts. In terms of definition of "Mobile device", the paper makes the distinction that the primary function must be mobile telephony. This excludes other mobile and handheld devices with a different primary function such as entertainment. Juniper Research excludes other financial services such as loans, credit cards, and insurance services, although one recognises that migration towards other financial services is happening in some services and is clearly the logical next step especially as banks will have the opportunity to cross sell.
