Bi-Directional Hybrid Coupled Microstrip Antenna for WLAN Application

In this paper, the authors present a compact size, single feed, back to back combined proximity and aperture coupled MicroStrip Antenna (MSA) in order to get a dipole like radiation pattern with improved bandwidth. The proposed antenna is working at the resonant frequency of 5.2 GHz. By back to back combining of the two antennas a bandwidth improvement from 4% to 9 % is observed. It is demonstrated that the proposed antenna can completely cover the required bandwidth for WLAN of IEEE 802.11a (5.15-5.35GHz) with satisfactory radiation characteristics.
