Business processes are becoming more integrated and complex, costs are controlled in all areas, and data is growing at an overwhelming rate. To meet these changing conditions, companies of all sizes are progressively more dependent on increasing the productivity of knowledge workers. However, the workflows, tool sets, and skills that these knowledge workers have not been modernised to adapt to the business realities of today. As a result, many of these workers are at a breaking point, spending more and more time looking through and sorting information and less time adding value to it. Is there a happy medium between end users' needs for self-service and the IT charter to provide control, security, centralisation, and optimisation of BI environments? In this study, Forrester explored what the business and IT features and requirements for such a solution should be.
