This paper introduces the benefits of Connection Control Protocol (C2P) in the frame of DVB-RCS satellite networks. C2P not only solves mesh connectivity but allows QoS control enhancements, dynamic multicast group handling and even allows the introduction of security key exchange architecture. Satellites are striving to become an important actor in the Next Generation Networks (NGN) by offering seamless integration with the terrestrial networks. New satellite technologies, flexible payloads, multi-beam antennas and On-Board Processing (OBP) are enabling new ways of providing broadband access as a complement to existing solutions.
