Virtualization is a wave sweeping through the world of corporate computing today. Many enterprises are nearing full capacity as far as availability of physical space and power in their data centers. At the same time, they are often using less than a third of their computational resources. The benefits of using virtualization to consolidate IT applications onto fewer, more powerful, energy-efficient servers are widely understood. Even so, the use of virtualization technologies has not yet become as widespread as might have been expected.
