Some of the biggest and most powerful IT players - Microsoft, Google, IBM, SAP, and Wipro technologies are jostling for positions in the emerging cloud-computing market. Countless start-ups, many telecommunications companies, and several other unexpected players - Amazon.com, in particular, have joined the party, too. Analysts estimate that in 2012, the size of the enterprise cloud-computing business may reach $60 billion to $80 billion or about 10 percent of the global IT-services and enterprise-software market. Although its double-digit growth rate is welcome relief for vendors in this downturn, the cloud-computing market is still early in its life cycle. So is cloud computing overblown hype or a real opportunity to transform how IT is consumed and deployed within an enterprise?
