This paper deals with the channel assignment problem for multicast transmission in multi-radio, multi-channel wireless mesh networks. The objective is to maximize the minimum path success probability by properly assigning channels to reduce interference. Interference makes bit errors that lower the path success probability. Not only non-overlapping channels but also partially overlapping channels are assigned to several IEEE 802.11b network interface cards equipped in wireless mesh routers. The proposed algorithms in this paper consider the physical distance among nodes as well as channel separations to reduce interference. By considering both channel separation and physical distance, it maximizes the minimum path success probability.
