This paper proposes a new receiver architecture for the reception of long range Bluetooth signals. The architecture applies Bluetooth SYNC sequence-based least-square channel estimation combined with FFT-based frequency-domain channel equalization including adapted overlap-add processing. For both algorithms, implementation complexity optimizations are discussed. Extensive simulation results demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed architecture in severe multipath interference conditions, enabling new use cases for existing Bluetooth products as well as new product categories for Bluetooth wireless connectivity technology.
