Executive Summary

IEEE 802.16/WiMAX, a broadband wireless access technique is a promising technology that supports both fixed and mobile users. The conventional scheduling algorithms in WiMAX have a policy to penalize the subscriber stations located far off from the base station with lower coding rates as the channel quality degrades with distance. In this paper, an effective scheduling algorithm that provides fair resource allocation especially for subscriber stations located far off from the base station is presented. The conclusions are based on following important performance metrics: Traffic received, Throughput, Jitter and Packet delay variation.
