In this paper, the authors present classification of Two Dimensional Cellular Automata (2D CA) uniform group rules, with null boundary condition, based on the characteristics matrix. To understand the behavior of 2D CA it is important to have classification on the basis of properties or characteristics of the 2D CA. At present, they are unable to present a general procedure to estimate the cycle length of 2D CA group rules. However, the proposed classification technique may be helpful in understanding and estimating the cycle lengths of 2D CA in future.
