Communication With Less Hardware
Software Defined Radio is an emerging technology in the field of communication. In this paper, two applications based on SDR are discussed. First, the authors discuss the weather satellite image decoding using a SDR receiver, FUNCube Dongle (FCD). Second, Sudden Ionospheric Disturbances (SID)are studied with Software Defined Radio (SDR) and Gnu radio framework using VLF signal captured from Indian Navy Station VTX3 that transmits at 18.2 kHz. Both these applications require very less hardware and hence they are very much cost effective.
