Compression and Decompression of Virtual Disk Using Deduplication

The basic goal of virtualization is to centralize administrative tasks while improving scalability and workload. One of the biggest challenges to the data storage community is how to effectively store data without taking the exact same data and storing again and again in different locations on the back end servers. The latest answer offered by the data storage field is the technology known as data de-duplication. Data de-duplication is a method of reducing storage needs by eliminating redundant data. Only one unique instance of the data is actually retained on back end server. Redundant data is replaced with a pointer to the unique data copy. File de-duplication eliminates duplicate files.
