Data quality management does not happen by accident. Successful enterprises know the crucial steps necessary to build and sustain data quality programs, and very often these same enterprises are acutely aware of the inter-relationship between data quality and business outcomes. The real goal of data quality management is to instill both short term and long-term change within the organization. This is achieved through fully committing to the concept of a single-view interpretation of data, no matter where one might sit within the enterprise. Traveling this road is not always done painlessly. Some enterprises enthusiastically support data quality management initiatives but suddenly pull back when economic conditions worsen or when there is change in the senior management ranks.
