Consolidating Oracle on the HP DL785 Server - Real Machines or Virtual Machines?

Executive Summary

This white paper describes how HP compared two approaches to Oracle consolidation. In the conventional approach, multiple Oracle databases were run on a single Linux operating system. In the virtualization approach, each Oracle database was assigned to its own virtual machine. The results were very positive for using an HP ProLiant DL785 G5 server with both approaches, although virtualization introduced some limitations which must be considered.
