Executive Summary

Oracle Forms applications can be modernized with the help of Oracle Application Express. These forms are converted to use another development tool to build an application. Oracle Forms modernization projects convert legacy applications in order to utilize the latest Oracle Database version that enables the developers to create user-satisfying applications for greater user interactivity and Web 2.0 capabilities. Oracle Application Express delivers applications using HTML. This solution has built-in Web 2.0 functionality including interactive reports, Flash charts, with the ability to extend user interactivity by use of JavaScript and Asynchronous JavaScript, and XML (Ajax). Oracle Application Express makes use of a quick application development environment with SQL and PL/SQL to define processes and enter business logic. Discussed in this paper are the capabilities required for converting from Oracle Forms to Oracle Application Express in Oracle Application Express 3.2 to create the application design that can be enhanced to reproduce the original application. After the generation of initial design, the rapid application development capabilities of Oracle Application Express can be used to generate the pages. All steps required to create the sample application tables are mentioned and discussed here. The conversion process provides benefits by producing user interface components and providing project management tracking capabilities. The resources required for the conversion of Oracle Forms are reliant on the size, complexity, and business logic execution within the Oracle Forms application.
