CTRL: A Self-Organizing Femtocell Management Architecture for Co-Channel Deployment

Femtocell technology has emerged as a cost-effective means to enhance indoor network coverage and capacity for growing demands for cellular (voice calls and data) services within a home or an enterprise environment. A femtocell is a small indoor area covered by a low-power Base Station (BS), referred to as a femto BS in this paper. Unlike macro BSs, femto BSs are installed on the subscriber's premise and typically connected to an operator's core network via public Internet connections, such as DSL and cable modems.
