A powerful, reliable and stable data warehouse is the key to an efficient IT system. Exhaustive testing of the data warehousing system is vital during the implementation as well as for ongoing regular monitoring. Organizations are realizing the importance of thorough testing for a number of reasons like compliance, migration of data centers and dependence on business information for decision making. A recent paper released by Infosys focuses on the design and architecture of data warehouses and the importance of aligning the strategy of testing to ensure a robust system. With the increased dependence on data and information technology, the market today offers highly efficient data storing solutions at cost effective prices. While the prices of related hardware and software have reduced, the dependency on IT systems has made thorough testing of the data warehouse imperative. This importance has increased manifolds with the heightened focus on information security which talks about maintaining the confidentiality, integrity and availability of business information. Although there are no standardized guidelines on data warehouse testing from the point of tools usage, the paper attempts to explain how usage of correct tools can take care of testing issues like redundancy.
