A thorough review of the burgeoning (or Perhaps Billowing!) literature on cloud computing leaves one simultaneously excited and confused. Excitement and confusion are common companions for information technologists who are confronted regularly with things that are new, things that promise to transform, and things with ambiguous names! The review of this early literature does conclude that, despite the hype, cloud computing is different and is important. This ECAR research bulletin is the first in a series of bulletins devoted to cloud computing in higher education.
