Design and Implementation of an Efficient Software Communications Architecture Core Framework for a Digital Signal Processors Platform
The Software Communications Architecture (SCA) was developed by the Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) program of the US Department of Defense to standardize the development of Software Defined Radio (SDR) technology. The SCA was developed to enhance system flexibility and interoperability, while reducing development and deployment costs. Early implementations of SCA SDRs have struggled to meet performance, cost, size and power requirements. Arguably, many of the these problems have their origin in the assumption of a modular and distributed platform based on General Purpose Processor (GPP) to perform all signal processing.
