To analyse barriers and facilitators for local and regional food network development and the role of governmental and other support agencies. Case analysis of three English regional food networks: A local food marketing group; an initiative integrating supply chain members to exploit a local ethnic market opportunity; and an ethically driven retailer co-operative, sourcing locally. Primary investigation uses both survey and semi-structured depth interviews with small business participants and network members. Interpretation is made via the technique of market mapping in order to highlight both supply chain issues and institutional obstacles to market development.
