Windchill uses different repositories to store content files, metadata, and user data, and synchronization of these repositories needs to be managed in recovery situations. Addressing the high availability and performance expectations of Windchill users in multi-site companies, which typically host remote repositories, requires an effective disaster recovery solution. As well, the productivity loss in the event of a site failure can be substantial, dictating the need for strict guidelines regarding system down time. VMware virtualization technology helps overcome the challenge of achieving cost effective disaster recovery. This paper introduces an approach to disaster recovery that uses VMware Site Recovery and block-based SAN storage replication to provide an effective availability solution for mission-critical Windchill deployments.
