There are a plethora of cloud-based services on offer: some mature (think of cloud-based backup storage) and others not; some designed from the ground up as enterprise solutions, others evolved from consumer services. If one migrates to cloud computing services, one needs to understand all of these factors to avoid introducing new sources of complexity and risk to the organisation. This means that one can't afford to view cloud computing as purely an IT project. If people focus on IT architectures and applications, rather than on how these support business processes and their organisation's strategic objectives, they are unlikely to achieve the full benefits or mitigate the potential risks.
