Substance abuse testing can decrease workplace accidents, production costs, medical costs, workers compensation premiums, turnover, theft and shrinkage. By implementing a substance abuse program, companies also boost employee morale and loyalty. This is especially so for small businesses, which experience the most problems with substance abusers (because drug users shy away from companies known to have drug-free workplace programs). But if your company employs 15 or more employees (or, under some state laws, more than 6 employees), you will have to comply with the regulations promulgated under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
