Dynamic CPU Share Allocation and Server Consolidation in Virtualized Data Centers

Free registration required

Executive Summary

Data centers owners all over the world are facing the complex problem of reducing the cost of management without violation of SLAs. Virtualization as a technology for server consolidation is used and will continually get used since it reduces number of physical servers and hence, cost in the data center drastically. However, virtualized servers are allocated resources to satisfy their peak demands but average load on a server can be significantly lower compared to its peak demand. Hence, most of the systems are still underutilized. Efficient use of available resources is essential since it will help in reducing the operational cost of the data center. Also, it should not affect the performance of the hosted applications.
