Executive Summary

The principle goal of the authors' research project is to improve the availability of service-oriented systems. This is especially important in systems that cross organizational boundaries. In this paper the authors outline the main research questions, their approach, which is based on appropriate redundancy strategies, and the progress achieved to date. Software architecture is a discipline of software engineering, which models systems as separate components, the connections between them, and their measurable properties. Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is a style of architecture that has been defined as a paradigm for organizing and utilizing distributed capabilities that may be under the control of different domains.
