Increasingly, businesses are striving to use IT as a competitive advantage - which requires greater IT responsiveness to business units. At the same time, data center and desktop computing are becoming more complex, compromising IT agility. A private-cloud computing environment comprised of virtual machines enables greater responsiveness as well as improved resource utilization. Servers and desktops can now be delivered in minutes and resources dynamically allocated and reallocated to meet changing business priorities. On the other hand, cloud computing adds complexity. Without management capabilities at the cloud level, higher operating costs and inefficient resource utilization can quickly offset the benefits of a virtualized infrastructure.
