Network services are provided by means of dedicated service gateways, through which traffic flows are directed service placement problem, which takes into account traffic engineering considerations. Rather than trying to minimize the Length of the traffic flow routes, the authors take advantage of these routes in order to enhance the overall network performance. Network services are used in the Internet today for a variety of functionality, from Voice over IP (VoIP) relays to network game servers. Determining the placement of these network services and measuring the quality of the placement in realistic scenarios is a challenging problem. This paper explores different methodologies for evaluating the placement of network services.
