Emotional Intelligence in Recruitment

Emotional Intelligence (EI) has been touted as being responsible for over 85% of outstanding performance in the workplace. Whilst such estimates have been criticised as being somewhat overzealous, a large body of research now exists which highlights the importance of EI for organisations. It is therefore not surprising that the assessment of emotional intelligence has gained recent popularity in Australian recruitment and selection settings. However, alarmingly it has been estimated that only 25% of HR practitioners who assess EI actually use valid and reliable EI tests.
