Executive Summary

If the same employee motivation factors applied to everyone, management would be a breeze. Unfortunately (for managers), employees insist on being individuals, with their own desires for rewards. To make things a bit easier, it helps to identify some workplace motivators that are effective for a majority of workers. What's important is to give the right employee the right job or task for his or her particular skills and preferences. If you think about a baseball team, you can identify jobs necessary to the success of the whole team. Some players are better pitchers, others are better hitters. Unmotivated players get cut from the team or traded. Employee teams can be managed in the same way so that employee skills are better utilized.
