Most EoPDH devices are only limited to private networks and point-to-point applications. With the ITU-T G.7043 and G.8040 standards established, interoperability between the new generations of EoPDH devices is made possible. In the wired field, the new generation of EoPDH can complement Ethernet over SONET (EoS). A combination of both can realize the Ethernet service on existing copper cable. Because the connection between wired networks, base stations and base station controllers is inevitable, Generic Framing Procedure (GFP), Virtual Concatenation (VCAT) and Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS) are the back-up solution of wired networks; the new-generation EoPDH devices can realize the interconnection between them.
