In this paper, the authors have introduced the docitive paradigm in the context of the WiMAX beyond next-generation deployment scenario proposed by the ICT BuNGee project. In particular, they have focused on the capability of self-organization of the ABS nodes, which implement a state of the art machine learning scheme, the Q-learning. Based on this algorithm, the learning ABSs set their transmission parameters in order to efficiently operate in the same frequency band as the other access nodes and the self-backhaul link. The training process required to operate in an efficient manner is however very long, which is a typical limitation of all distributed learning schemes, thus making truly cognitive approaches not sustainable in a real wireless setting.
