In this paper, the authors present the energy efficient strategies and the importance of Altruistic approach in the absence of nearest neighboring nodes to the receiver. Two energy-efficient strategies are proposed: in-situ energy conscious DISH, which uses existing nodes only, and altruistic DISH, which requires additional nodes called altruists. Generally comparison is done with five protocols with respect to these strategies and identifies altruistic DISH to be the right choice in general: it conserves 40-80 percent of energy, maintains the throughput advantage, and more than doubles the cost efficiency compared to protocols without this strategy. On the other hand, their study also shows that in-situ energy conscious DISH is suitable only in certain limited scenarios.
