Energy-Efficient Routing through Weighted Load Balancing
In this paper the authors present a novel algorithm, Energy Efficient Weighted Load Balanced Routing (E-WLBR), to increase network lifetime for ad hoc wireless networks by applying weighted load-balancing strategies to the network. They show that E-WLBR significantly outperforms the Energy-opportunistic Weighted Minimum Energy Algorithm (E-WME) in throughput and efficient network energy utilization by communicating global network conditions with minimal control message overhead. Ad hoc wireless networks are an attractive choice of communication technology for a wide-range of applications from disaster relief to military communications since they can be quickly and easily deployed. Their usefulness, however, is severely limited by the available battery energy at the nodes.
