The use of wireless sensor networks increased in applications such as intrusion detection, forest fire detection, disaster management and battle field. As sensor nodes are generally battery-powered devices, the critical aspects to face concern how to reduce the energy consumption of nodes, so that the network lifetime can be extended to reasonable times. Node clustering is one of the most promising techniques for energy conservation. This paper presents an Enhanced UDCA (Uniformly Distributed Clustering Algorithm) which maximizes the network lifetime by reducing the number of communication among sensor nodes and base station.
