Purchasing and Supply Management (P/SM) has moved from an administrative to a strategic function (Giunipero, Handfield & Eltantawy, 2006). In order to effectively execute the strategic implications of the profession and to apply new concepts such as target costing or risk management, purchasing training is regarded as one of the major means to prepare purchasing professionals to carry out new assignments and to support the shift from operational to strategic purchasing (Carr & Smeltzer, 2000; Handfield & Nichols, 2004; Giunipero, Handfield & Eltantawy, 2006).
