Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 is a critical application for most, if not all businesses that have deployed it as their email application of choice. Even short periods of unexpected downtime can have a serious impact on productivity and in the event of a system or network failure, the ability to back up and/or restore Exchange data quickly and consistently is vital. The challenges of backing up data - for example, backup jobs exceeding their backup window, inability to backup open files and/or open applications - led to the development of snapshots. Snapshot technology enables administrators to "snap" a copy of data while allowing applications to continue running. Applications are paused just long enough to allow the disk system to create the snapped copy.
