IEEE 802.16 standard (WiMAX) is one of the most popular standards for fixed and mobile broadband wireless access systems to provide last mile access. Due to various users with diverse QoS requirements and wireless communication technologies, the resource scheduler plays an important role to provide fairness and QoS guarantees. As summarized in, a resource scheduler in wireless multimedia networks needs to possess the following features: efficient link utilization, delay bound, low implementation complexity, throughput, scalability, and fairness. For WiMAX and OFDMA systems, various scheduling algorithms have been proposed for achieving QoS guarantees.
