Fast and Efficient IP Network Recovery using Multiple Routing Configuration
Internet plays a vital role in the peoples communications infrastructure, due to slow convergence of routing protocols after network failure become a growing problem. To guarantee fast recovery from link and node failure in networks, the authors propose a new recovery scheme called Multiple Routing Configuration (MRC). Their proposed scheme guarantees recovery in all single failure states, using a mechanism to handle both link and node failures without knowing the actual cause of the failure. MRC is strictly connectionless, and assumes only hop-by-hop forwarding from source to destination. MRC is based on maintaining additional routing information in the routers, and allows packet forwarding to carry on an alternative output link immediately after the detection of a failure.
