Executive Summary

Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) is an evolving network technology that has been used to provide Traffic Engineering and high speed networking. Uninterrupted transmission in case of failure is a major concern in MPLS based networks. The path protection is an effective method for uninterrupted transmission. Existing approaches towards the path protection includes local and global path protections. However, they provide fixed solutions and cannot be adapted to Quality of Service (QoS) and resource constraints for various kinds of traffic. The fault retrieval has become an important research area in MPLS Traffic Engineering. At present, Protection Switching is used for fault retrieval/recovery.
