Metrics provide an essential and effective tool for managing a test program. While there are hundreds of metrics that can be derived from a test program, in the interest of time and energy, it is important that only the right and relevant set of metrics be collected. This paper suggests five key, not-so-regular bug-based metrics that a test manager must collect, review, understand and implement during the test cycle. Data coming from these metrics is evaluated and strategies are suggested to improve the effectiveness of the test program.
