Future communication systems should support different modulations. Therefore, there is need for flexible receivers that can support many modulations. It is known that a frequency domain receiver is a baseband architecture that can support all modulations, only the required building blocks and their related parameters have to be selected and changed, respectively, when the modulation method is changed. The aim of this paper is to review a generic frequency domain receiver concept and show its variants for different modulations including single carrier, multicarrier and direct sequence signals.
