Footwear technologists work mainly in a shoe-factory or related organisation. They may specialize in design, production management, industrial engineering, quality control, or in general and executive management. You should have an aptitude for practical work and machines, although if design were to be your direction of specialization, an interest in art and drawing would be desirable. You should be prepared to work in a production and business environment. The local industry is widespread and career opportunities exist in a large number of footwear factories, both big and small, and opportunities for promotion are good. You can also work in the supply of machinery or materials.
