Software-defined radio represents a major change in the design paradigm for radios, in which most of the functionality is made through programmable signal processing devices, giving the radio the ability to change its operating parameters to accommodate new features and capabilities. A software-defined radio platform is designed to make mobile systems more flexible with respect to the bandwidth requirements of different mobile standards. This flexibility is achieved by performing channel selection in the digital domain through Sample Rate Conversion (SRC) with programmable digital filters.
