For many enterprise IT departments, the process of maintaining an extensive population of functional Windows PCs relies on the ability of the administrative staff to quickly deploy a consistent operating system. Each of these deployments not only must contain the essential Windows OS, but must also include every update and driver to support a variety of hardware. Maintaining such an extensive library of device drivers can be a daunting exercise for most IT administrators, especially when considering how the enterprise population of Windows hardware can change from one quarter to the next. As new PCs refresh the old, a new set of device drivers must be added or replaced to maintain a highly functional OS deployment process.
