Fuzzy Based Energy Efficient Clustering Technique for ZigBee (802.15.4) Sensor Networks
In IEEE 802.15.4 (ZIGBEE) sensor networks, the energy dissipation problem and clustering are interrelated. The clustering process that takes mobility into account results in the excess of energy expenditure. Hence the energy expenditure has to be minimized to extend the network lifetime. In this paper, the authors propose a fuzzy based energy efficient clustering technique for Zigbee sensor networks. In this technique, fuzzy rules are formed on the input variables number of hops, residual energy, received signal strength and node degree, obtaining node rank as output. Then the node with highest rank is chosen as cluster head. When the sensor nodes want to transmit the data to the sink, it is compressed by the cluster head and then forwarded to the sink.
