Knowing both the components that are running on an operating system platform, and the configuration and relationships among the components, is critical for efficient monitoring and management. For z/OS, the ability to run many different types of workloads results in a complex set of components, configurations and relationships. There is a need to identify what is running, and the relationships among the components - relationships both within the z/OS environment and external to z/OS - to ensure both efficient service to applications supported by the components, and efficient application of service management to z/OS.
