Executive Summary

Computational RFIDs (CRFIDs) provide flexible, general-purpose computation on a microcontroller via energy that is harvested and stored in capacitors rather than batteries. The contributions include a definition of CRFIDs, a framework for energy management in CRFIDs, and the preliminary design of Mementos, a medley of compile-time and run-time techniques to achieve effective forward progress of computation on CRFIDs by using energy-aware computational checkpoints and voltage-aware program reordering that maintains program semantics.
