As of April 20, 2006 all level of health plans must comply with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The intent of this paper is not to provide the reader a detailed overview of HIPAA, its encompassing requirements and impact on the organization. The fact is if they are in the healthcare profession they understand the impacts of HIPAA, the live with HIPAA every day. The focus of this paper is to highlight two specific growing areas of compliance audit under HIPAA, namely the organizations shared privileged password management controls and remote third party access and monitoring controls.
